1. Location information
If you grant Android location permission and choose automatic location, the app accesses your approximate or precise location to find mosques, display maps, and request local prayer times. It can update your location as you move while the app is in use. The app stops requesting device location updates when it is no longer in the foreground.
You can decline or revoke location permission and choose a town or enter coordinates manually. The selected coordinates are still sent to the services needed to provide results. A manually selected place does not necessarily represent your actual location.
2. Information sent to external services
The app connects directly to these services:
- AlAdhan: receives the selected latitude and longitude, date, time zone, and prayer calculation settings to return prayer times. AlAdhan website.
- Overpass API (overpass-api.de): receives a mosque search query containing the selected coordinates and search radius to find nearby places in OpenStreetMap data. Overpass API website.
- OpenStreetMap: receives map requests, including the displayed area and marker coordinates, when the app displays an embedded map. OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
- Google Maps: when you choose to open a search or directions, the app passes the relevant search location or destination to Google Maps or your browser. Use of that service is governed by Google’s privacy policy.
Internet requests expose your IP address to the receiving service. Requests can also include technical information such as the app or browser type, operating system, and request time. OpenStreetMap describes technical logging and service-related processing in its privacy policy. Embedded web services may also use cookies or browser storage under their own policies.
These services operate their own infrastructure. Their logging, retention, and handling of requests are controlled by their operators. Clearing data in Mosque Nearby does not delete records already held by these services.
3. Information stored on your device
The app stores preferences, such as your language, selected location, time zone, and automatic-location setting. It also caches downloaded prayer times and mosque results so they can be displayed again. Stored values can include location coordinates.
The app does not require an account or sign-in. It contains no advertising SDK or dedicated analytics SDK. The reviewed app sends its mosque and prayer-time requests directly to the services listed above, rather than to a developer-operated app backend.
4. Purpose and sharing
Location and settings are used to provide the app’s mosque search, map, and prayer-time features. Information is shared with the external services as described above to make those features work. We do not sell your personal information or use the app’s location information for advertising.
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever information you include, and use it to respond to your request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
5. Retention and deletion
Saved preferences and cached results remain on your device until they are replaced or cleared. You can use “Clear saved location and data” in the app to remove saved preferences and downloaded results. To clear all app storage, including embedded browser data, use Android Settings → Apps → Mosque Nearby → Storage → Clear data (wording varies by device), or uninstall the app.
You can revoke location access in Android’s app permission settings. Revoking access stops new device-location access but does not erase previously saved or transmitted information.
External service records follow each provider’s retention practices; we cannot set their retention periods or delete their logs through this app. Support correspondence is retained while needed to handle your request and related follow-up. Contact us to request deletion of information you have sent us; any necessary legal retention will be explained in our response.
6. Security
The app uses HTTPS for its network connections to protect information in transit. No method of storage or transmission can guarantee absolute security.
7. Age group
Mosque Nearby is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us.
8. This privacy-policy website
This page is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Visiting it sends standard connection information, including your IP address and requested page, to Cloudflare for delivery and security. This page itself includes no advertising, analytics script, form, or embedded map. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its practices.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. The effective date above will identify the latest revision.
